St Ives 2XV, Saturday 13th October, Home, Won 64-0

(EDF Energy National Junior Vase)

Royces entered this “road to Twickenham” competition at the 3rd round stage, a benefit of gaining promotion to Midlands 5.

St Ives playing at the same level arrived with a mixture of results thus far in the season. Royces took the initiative and a little time to open the scoring. Once Royces had assessed the opposition an open game evolved, decision making improved but conviction often lacked. St Ives were forced into an early substitution. After the half hour mark a St Ives player sustained an accidental blow to the head in a tackle causing the game to be suspended. When the game restarted St Ives were down to 13 players, the injured player and an accompanying colleague leaving for the DRI.

Royces then controlled the game but to St Ives credit they never let their heads drop and continued to compete and contest every ball. A St Ives team, effected by an in-season wedding, were glad to hear a premature final whistle. The injured player re-appeared later from the DRI and we wish him well.
